Christos Carras was born in London (UK). He studied philosophy at Cambridge University and then earned his PhD from the University of Paris I - Sorbonne (1989).

In the 1990s his professional activities were centered on fine wine and organic traditional food products. In 1997 he cofounded the Wine Roads of Northern Greece, the country’s first and still most successful network of producers with an integrated wine and tourism offering.

From 2000 onwards, he has been working in the cultural sector. From 2002 to 2005 he was the Project Manager of the EU co-funded MediMuses Network. In 2006 he became the first General Manager of the B & M Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts and Music.

From 2009 to 2022 he was the Executive Director of the Onassis Cultural Centre (Onassis Stegi). The Onassis Stegi gives a prominent place to the presentation of the work of Greek artists, performers, and writers within the framework of a truly international program and reaches out to a broad and youthful audience from a wide range of demographics, with social impact at the heart of its concerns.

His responsibilities have included substantial involvement in the curation and coordination of the cultural program, building up an extensive and diverse network of European and International collaborations, implementing projects at the crossroads of art, science, technology and innovation, and developing a sustainability strategy to maximise the organisation’s contribution to environmental and social goals. He continues to work closely with the Onassis Foundation as a Senior Consultant.

In 2022 he undertook the coordination of a study of the Greek Cultural and Creative Sector, concluding with extensive policy proposals, commissioned by DiaNEOsis, a Greek think-tank and research centre.

His research interests include the aesthetics of contemporary sonic art, the significance of digital technologies in cultural production, the role of art in sustainable development policies and practices, the politics of cultural production and consumption.

In October 2022 he founded CCSC in order to diversify his work in the cultural sector and focus on the issues of sustainability, networks, impact, and innovation that he is passionate about. He collaborates with AEA Consulting, a global firm setting the standard in strategy and planning for the cultural and creative industries, as a Senior Associate.

In 2013 he was awarded the grade of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.
